The eighth generation VW Passat Variant (B8) that was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October last year, has been spied testing in California, USA.
Our friend Mikey Lamar who spotted this test mule in Los Angeles, says that a sedan version of the eighth-gen Passat (B8) was also on test with it.
Earlier reports have suggested that the currently sold North American-spec Passat will get a major facelift before entering the next generation. The North American model is based on a unique platform, although the all-new model will move on to the MQB-platform like the current Euro-spec model. Unlike any regular mid-life facelift, this one is expected to be a significant one, considering the segment’s importance in the market.
Reports suggest that the facelift will bring an array of updates and modifications, including a refreshed design similar to the Euro-spec model and new driver assistance systems. The facelift is said to arrive in the US as MY2016 model. The wagon was probably brought to the US for testing and validation; given the poor demand for this type of body style, it’s not likely to be sold in the U.S. and Canada anytime soon.
