The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has made its European debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) last week. The RAV4 Hybrid will be offered in both 2WD and E-Four AWD versions.
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid features a reworked front end featuring a wider grille while the lower trapezoidal grille gets an enlarged design. It sports LED or halogen headlamps units depending on the trim level and includes LED daytime running lamps. The fog lamps have been moved further to the extremities of the bumper with deep housings for a wide and stable look.
The rear features the incorporation of new LED taillamps with a new lighting signature. It also gets revamped bumpers with a tweaked underguard for enhanced road presence. Other design flourishes include new trim for the wheel arches and sills for added exclusivity. It is offered with a choice of 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels and nine exterior colour schemes which include a new Dark Red and Blue metallic colour schemes.
The interior features the incorporation of higher quality materials with the dashboard, arm rests and door panels featuring a new design. The centre console, instrument cluster and the gear shift surround have also been upgraded. The instrument cluster sports a new 4.2-inch multi-information screen, while the centre console can now accommodate the 7-inch touch screen Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system.
The interior is offered with new colour schemes including four high-grade leather upholstery. These include the addition of revised beige, tan and grey colour schemes. The door panels and armrests also get a new neutral silver or matte black finish.
The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine coupled with an electric motor powered by a 204-cell nickel-metal hydride battery, which is located beneath the rear seats. The AWD version adds an additional electric motor mounted at the rear powering the E-Four all-wheel drive system (AWD).
The powertrain features a total output of 195 bhp (145 kW) and is mated to an E-CVT electric continuously variable transmission. The RAV4 Hybrid is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.7 seconds and goes on to achieve a top speed of 180.24 km/h (112 mph). It features a combined fuel efficiency of 20.42 km/l (57.7 mpg) with CO2 emissions of 115g/km.
Other notable features include a Panoramic View Monitor and Toyota Safety Sense package with safety features like Lane Departure Alert, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beam, radar-controlled Pre-Collision, Adaptive Cruise Control and Pedestrian Detection function.
