Ford will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350 by building a limited run of Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R Mustangs this year. The company has kept the production numbers for both the special edition models very low in order to give exclusivity to its buyers. 100 units of the Shelby GT350 will be made, based on the MY2015 Mustang, before the production of the MY2016 begins. Half of these 100 will be equipped with the Technology Package and the other half will be equipped with the Track Package.
The 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang sports a naturally aspirated flat-plane crankshaft 5.2-liter V8 engine that delivers 500+ horsepower and 542 Nm of maximum torque. The gasoline engine directs power to the wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. A Ford-tuned limited-slip differential is standard for optimizing cornering grip and straight-line traction. 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are also standard for improved handling.
The 2015 Shelby GT350R Mustang, a more track-focused version of the 2015 Shelby GT350 Mustang, will also be based on the MY2015 Mustang but will be strictly limited to 37 units. The engine specifications remain the same as that of the GT350. The GT350R is 130 pounds (59 kg) heavier than the GT350 equipped with the Track Pack. Notable features on the GT350R include underbody belly pans front and rear, diffuser, vented wheel wells and turbulence-reducing fender vents, side skirts, wheel air curtains, Michelin’s top-shelf Pilot Sport Cup 2 high-performance tires wrapped on 19-inch lightweight carbon fiber wheels and carbon fiber rear wing.
