In an attempt to gauge the public’s reaction to the design of the new Ford GT, the company displayed the $400,000 supercar in Central London with the oval badges covered, and asked them to try and identify the brand.
According to the video uploaded by Ford on YouTube, they received a variety of answers ranging from Ferrari, McLaren and even Brabus. People were pleasantly surprised when they learnt that the supercar was a Ford. This experiment attempted to showcase the prowess of Ford in being able to design and build a supercar.
A 3.5 litre V6 EcoBoost engine developing more than 600 bhp powers the new Ford GT and will be mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The new supercar is slated to go into production in 2016 with only 250 units being available every year.
The design of the all-new Ford GT is modern, aggressive and low-slung while paying homage to the original GT design. Ford unveiled the GT at the 2015 Detroit Auto show in January, with the launch year specifically chosen to mark the 50th Anniversary of the GT’s win at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours race.
The new Ford GT uses lightweight materials like carbon fibre and aluminium in its construction, with the company promising the one of the highest power-to-weight ratios in its segment. It also features an aerodynamic body with a deployable rear spoiler and gets a carbon-fibre passenger cell.
