Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2016 Mercedes GLS (GL facelift) and will preview it in metal at the 2015 LA Auto Show that will be held between the 17th and 29th of this month.
The facelift has brought some minor changes to the exterior. The face witnesses the most revisions with a redesigned grille and modified headlamps along with new bumper design. The sides feature new alloy wheels, with the changes at the rear are limited to the bumper and tail lights. The 2016 Mercedes GLS comes with two new new exterior colour choices – Designo Diamond White and Designo Hyacinth Red.
The interior gets a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel finished in Nappa leather. There is also a revised instrument cluster and centre console with the most striking change being the semi-integrated 8-inch COMAND infotainment system. This unit is controlled by a touchpad positioned between the seats on the centre console. Other features of the cabin are ambient lighting with three colour shades and an optional ionization system that drastically improves air quality.
The facelifted Mercedes GLS will come in with three engine options. The GLS 350d 4Matic derives power from a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine that produces 190 kW (258 hp) and 620 Nm of torque. The GLS 400 4Matic has a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that produces 245 kW (333 hp) and 480 Nm of torque. The top-of-the-line GLS 500 4Matic is powered by a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that churns out 335 kW (455 hp) and maximum torque of 700 Nm. All these engines are combined with the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The performance flagship is the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC that outs 430 kW (585 hp) and torque of 760 Nm. The transmission however is the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic unit. 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system is standard across the range, but power delivery is rear-biased in case of the AMG variant.
The 2016 Mercedes GLS is fitted with driver assistance systems such as collision prevention assist plus, crosswind assist and attention assist as standard. There is a raft of safety systems that comes as standard, including PRE-SAFE system, Brake Assist (BAS), 4ETS electronic all-wheel drive traction system, ESP with Curve Dynamic Assist, cruise control with variable Speedtronic speed limiter and steering assist function Steer Control.
The 2016 Mercedes GLS will be available to order from today in Germany and deliveries are expected to commence by March 2016.
