GM has announced that it is investing US$245 million and adding 300 new jobs at its Orion Assembly plant in for a secret all-new vehicle program. The all-new vehicle program will be “unlike any in the plant’s 32-year history”.
The million-dollar investment is a part of the US$5.4 billion cumulative investment to be made in the U.S. by the company over the next three years. The all-new vehicle will be built alongside the Bolt EV, for which, the company announced an investment of US$160 million seven months ago.
GM was coy about specific details on the vehicle or its launch time, but an undisclosed GM official did reveal to Automotive News that it will enter production in the next three to four years’ time, i.e. by 2018 or 2019.
