GM announced earlier this week that it is investing US$245 million and adding 300 new jobs at its Orion Assembly plant for a secret all-new vehicle program. The company describes it as “unlike any in the plant’s 32-year history”, the company said.
The secret vehicle is a new small crossover that will be launched under the Cadillac brand, says a new report from Motor Trend. It will be an all-new vehicle in itself; GM isn’t talking about a successor of any vehicle. Undisclosed sources told the publication that the secret car will be “a future crossover with no predecessor”, and it should arrive in the next three to four years’ time.
The forthcoming crossover should be either the XT3 or an even smaller XT1, as per the report. GM filed a slew of trademarks on November 7, 2014, for names ranging from XT2 to XT8. These trademarks are for Cadillac’s future crossover/SUVs.
