Hyundai Motor launches ‘Genesis’ as standalone luxury brand

Hyundai Motor has announced the launch of a new dedicated luxury brand – Genesis. With the new luxury brand comes new nomenclature for Hyundai Motor’s upmarket models.

The Genesis models will be named with G as a prefix to a number like 70, 80 or 90. The number will represent the segment the car belongs to. It’s unclear as of now whether all vehicle categories will go with the ‘G’ prefix. Reports say that the current, second generation Hyundai Genesis will be rebranded to Genesis G80 and the third generation 2017 Hyundai Equus will be named Genesis G90.

The Genesis models will be badged with a new wing-type emblem, a redesigned version of the current Hyundai Genesis’ emblem. The Genesis models would come with all bells and whistles, and the latest advancements from Hyundai Motor. They’ll come with the latest proactive safety technologies, IT connectivity and intuitive convenience features.

Beginning this December, six Genesis models will be launched by 2020. The luxury marque will be launched first in South Korea, China, North America and the Middle East. Other Asian markets and Europe will be added later “as the model range grows to full strength.”
