A new report on Autocar says that Jaguar is working on an all-electric vehicle, which is likely to be based on the upcoming F-Pace crossover. The F-Pace electric crossover will have a driving range of around 300 miles (480 km), and will launch in 2018 reveals the report.
Prominent luxury vehicle markets like the U.S., the UK and even China are promoting electric vehicles with new laws and incentives. As per the report, the reasons behind Jaguar developing an all-electric vehicle could be adhering to the laws promoting electric vehicles as well as analysts’ expecting rise in demand of luxury electric vehicles. Also, the new electric vehicle could be used for offering a Range Rover-branded all-electric vehicle with lesser development costs.
Market of electric luxury vehicles is likely to expand significantly in the coming years. Tesla is already doing strongly in the luxury vehicle segment with its all-electric vehicle Model S of which 16,550 units were sold in 2014 in the U.S. alone. The California-based all-electric car manufacturer is also bringing an all-electric luxury crossover – Model X, in early 2016. Even Audi, Jaguar’s German rival, is planning to introduce an all-electric crossover in 2017.
