Jaguar isn’t planning to stop with the F-Pace, and will follow it up with a family of SUVs, says a fresh report from Autocar.
The first SUV, a crossover in technical terms, F-Pace will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) next month and go on sale in the UK and other first markets in early 2016. The F-Pace could be joined by a sub-compact crossover in the future. Rival automaker Audi has announced that its sub-compact crossover ‘Q1’ will be launched in 2016.
The British automaker’s smallest crossover would be a little longer than 4 metres, as per the report. The company finds that adding a crossover to its line-up will enhance the brand value more than adding a hatchback like the Audi A1.
Reports earlier this year said that a crossover bigger than the F-Pace (dubbed ‘Jaguar J-Pace’) will also be launched and that it will have seven seats. According to the new report though, it’s unlikely that Jaguar will launch such a model, as a model of that size won’t meet the performance standards the company has set for itself.
The company wants to have a sporty crossover range, and so, there may be coupe versions of the regular crossovers, just like BMW does with its X3 and X5 (with the X4 and X5 respectively). Unlike the Land Rover Evoque though, a 2-door body style is not likely to be offered for Jaguar’s coupe-styled crossover(s)/SUV(s). R and SVR variants for performance enthusiasts can also be expected.
