Jaguar will build its upcoming entry-level sedan, the Jaguar XE sedan in China, reports Automotive News. This will be the first Jaguar model to be built in China. The new sedan is likely to be built at Chery Jaguar Land Rover’s Changshu plant which currently manufactures the China-spec Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and will soon begin production of the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Although there has not been any official announcement regarding it, a Jaguar Land Rover executive did break the news in a conversation with Automotive News Europe. Rivals Mercedes, BMW and Audi build their executive sedans in China in a long wheelbase configuration, and it remains to be seen if the XE, like the XJ, will be offered with the optional stretched wheelbase.
There’s no word on whether the XE sedan will also be built at the company’s first wholly-owned manufacturing plant outside the United Kingdom, in Brazil.
