A report from Autocar in March this year said that Fiat and Jeep are working on a pair of SUVs larger than the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade crossovers, and that the Jeep-branded version will be launched as a replacement for Patriot and Compass when it arrives in 2016. The same publication is now reporting with a batch of spyshots that the Jeep-version is being tested under an enlarged Renegade body.
According to the report, the rear footwell of the Renegade spotted here has around 10 cm extra space. The front and rear tracks have been slightly widened. The production version will sit on a modified version of the platform that underpins the 500X and Renegade. The Nissan Qashqai-rival is expected to be offered with two diesel and two petrol options – the diesel variants having the Fiat MultiJet II and the petrol variants having the Fiat MultiAir II. All-wheel drive models will feature GKN switchable four-wheel drive transmission as standard; a 9-speed automatic transmission will be offered optionally.
