Kia GT concept confirmed for production

May 4, 2015

The Kia GT concept that was unveiled at the 2011 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt has been confirmed for production, claims a recent report from The concept vehicle was a rear-wheel drive four-door sports saloon powered by a 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 engine producing 390 hp and 534 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The report also throws light on the probability of the GT4 Stinger concept going into production. Unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, the concept car is still being considered for production but has very less chances to get the green light, as the market for its segment is not strong enough at the moment.

The company finds, says the report, that even if introduced into production, it won’t do well even after 18 months from its launch. The sports saloon on the other hand, is a more secure investment because of its segment strength.

The company will soon make an official announcement for the production version of the GT concept, says Drive.

  1. Good news, but I wish they had decided to build the SportSpace, instead.

Maybe they will build the GT to real sporting specs as Hyundai seems to have dropped the ball on the Genesis Coupe, moving it into the upscale GT/Sport coupe area, but not quite getting there, yet. Make the Genesis Coupe a real companion to the Genesis Sedan like the RC_coupe is to the Lexus luxury sedans. No matter what, in this segment, it is going to have be drop dead gorgeous to have any traction in this market. It has to pull in buyers just because it is so beautiful, and having a great chassis and performance like a 6-series, but at a bargain price point, would seal the sale for those who might have bought a ‘6’.
