The Kia SportSpace concept is said to have received an overwhelming response from the automotive media and auto enthusiasts globally. The concept debuted at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March and was highly expected to turn into an estate version of the 2016 Optima. However, the picture is clear now that the company is hesitant about offering a production estate based on the concept car.
Citing a conversation with Orth Hendricks, Kia Motors America Vice President of product planning, a new report from AutoGuide suggests that the company foresees an estate based on the concept car clashing with the Sorento. Mr. Hendricks thinks that the production model could be a potential product for Europe but the estate’s estimated sales volume did not seem profitable enough to him, indicates the report.
Though the Optima is not likely to be offered in an estate version as of now, the company may feel persuaded to offer it in the future if rival brands like Volkswagen, Skoda, Mazda, etc. are able to improve their estate sales.
