Jeff Bracken, Lexus brand’s General Manager for the U.S. market, told Reuters on Wednesday that the the brand is planning to launch a second “flagship” model.
“We need a flagship. It doesn’t have to be a sedan,” said Mr. Bracken. Although he didn’t reveal what category the new flagship could fall under, it is very likely that it would be a crossover/SUV, as the demand for luxury vehicles has shifted from sedans to crossovers worldwide.
“In addition to the LS (a large sedan), there could be another flagship in our lineup. We’ll define what it is in January,” he said. The new flagship model will likely be previewed with a concept at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, Mr. Bracken hinted.
[A three-row Lexus RX is on its way.]
It was reported in February that Lexus has learned that there is a great demand for a Lexus 7-seat crossover in the U.S. market and hence the fourth generation RX would have 7 seats. However it was unveiled in April at the 2015 New York International Auto Show without a three-row configuration.
Today it is confirmed that there would a new variant with a 7- or 8-seat configuration. Mr. Bracken says that that the RX with 7/8 seats is the No. 1 request from the brand’s dealers in US.
“We don’t want to wait for a next generation”, Mr. Bracken concluded, confirming that dealers wouldn’t have to wait for long.
