Following the European announcement last week, the Lexus RC 200t has been announced for Australia today. It will become the entry-level RC model in the market, joining the 3.5-litre V6-powered RC 350 and 5.0-litre V8-powered “halo model” RC F. The RC 200t is the fourth Lexus model to get this engine after the NX, RX and IS.
The engine specifications remain the same as that for Europe. The new 2.0-litre engine features twin-scroll turbocharger and produces 180 kW (241 hp) and 380 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission. The new engine weighs just 160 kg.
Lexus will reveal more details for the Australian-spec model closer to the market launch which will happen in December. A similarly specced Euro-spec model can reach 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 230 km/h. The fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures of the Euro-spec model are rated at 13.89 km/l and from 166 g/km respectively.
“RC 200t provides customers with an ideal introduction to the world of the outstanding, highly regarded RC coupe,” Lexus Australia CEO, Sean Hanley, said. He further stated: “The new Lexus turbo engine brings great performance and responsiveness that will combine to provide a thrilling drive in the RC 200t.”
Pricing of the Lexus RC 200t for Australia will be revealed closer to its market launch.
