The Maserati Kubang concept is set to evolve into a production crossover named Maserati Levante next year. Speaking to Autocar at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA), Harald Wester, CEO, Maserati, confirmed that the Levante will have its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March.
To keep the crossover a pure Maserati, none of the parts will be borrowed from FCA’s other brands, including Jeep. Mr. Wester said that it would be “based on 100% Maserati parts”.
Following the Levante, Maserati will launch the Alfieri sports car. However, the company doesn’t plan to add a smaller crossover in its line-up. The company does plan to introduce innovations in the coming years though. Plug-in hybrid variants of the Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte are on the cards, and will begin arriving from late 2017/early 2018.
Coming back to the upcoming crossover, Mr. Wester told the British publication that the Levante would be “different in every way” from the Kubang concept that was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (2011 IAA). It will be “better than competitors” and would be as capable off-road as a Jeep Trail Rated. “We need to be a 100% SUV”, Mr. Wester said.
Following its 2016 Geneva Motor Show debut, the Maserati Levante will go on sale in first markets likely in H2 2016.
