Ever since the third-generation Mazda3 was introduced in 2013, fans have been waiting for a Mazdaspeed 3. The high-performance variant was dropped with the second-generation model, but is now set to make a comeback in the form of a concept model initially, at the 2015 International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September, as per motoring.com.au.
The hot hatch concept will have a new 2.5-litre turbocharged engine under the hood, producing up to 220 kW (295 hp). This time, an all-wheel drive system can also be expected as it has become a norm with modern day hot hatches.
The report also reveals several details on the company’s other future cars. The second-generation CX-9 will use the same 2.5-litre turbocharged engine mentioned above, and have its world premiere at the 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show in November. The discontinued CX-7 is also set for a revival, as a stretched version of the CX-5 with a 5+2 seating arrangement. The second generation CX-7 can be expected to be introduced sometime in 2016, powered by a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from the CX-5.
The Mazdaspeed range can be expected to extend to other products in the future, including the fourth generation MX-5.
