The McLaren 650S is part of the company’s Super Series range, which also includes the 675LT and the 12C. It is successor to the 12C with a more powerful engine, better design and several technical upgrades. According to British magazine Autocar, McLaren has started plans for a successor to the 650S. It has been codenamed ‘P14’ and is likely to make its global debut in 2018.
The chassis and engine will remain the same, but the power output could be increased. The report states that the P14 will produce up to 660 hp, thus making it nearly as powerful as the Ferrari 488 GTB (661 hp). Moreover, since the range-topping Super Seriers model 675LT is limited to 500 units, McLaren might as well choose to make it more powerful than that, by increasing the power to a figure above 666 hp. In addition to that, the successor is expected to reach 0 to 100 km/h in under 3 seconds and have a top speed of more than 330 km/h.
The 650S successor will also get a new body design, that will set the template for the next batch of McLaren supercars. It will follow an extreme design language as that will help the British company keep the emotions associated with its cars. A open-top version of the P14, like the 650S Spider, is also planned, but it will hit the market about a year after the coupe version is launched.
