McLaren Automotive has revealed the open-top version of the McLaren 675LT – the McLaren 675LT Spider. The second LT-badged McLaren will also be limited to 500 units globally. The fifth model to join the company’s line-up of exotic high-performance cars this year falls in the Super Series range. The convertible version features a retractable hard top and with a dry weight of 1,270 kg, is 40 kg heavier than the coupe version.
The McLaren 675LT Spider is powered by a “heavily revised” version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine of the McLaren 675LT coupe. More than 50% components of the engine have been replaced for “optimised levels of power, torque and drivability”. The turbochargers are more efficient and the design of the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds has been changed. Also new, are the camshaft and the lightweight connecting rods, as well a faster flowing fuel pump and delivery system.
The engine still produces the same 675 PS (666 bhp) and 700 Nm (516 lb.-ft.) of torque though. However, the maximum torque is available in the coupe from 5,500 rpm but in the convertible, it’s available from 5,000 rpm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time remains the same 2.9 seconds, but the 0-200 km/h acceleration time is 8.1 seconds, 0.2 seconds more than the coupe. With a top speed of 326 km/h, the 675LT Spiderversion is 4 km/h slower than the 675LT.
New for the convertible version, is also Solis exterior colour option as well as Xenon Yellow interior contrast stitch choice. There’s also a new 20-spoke wheel design offered in liquid metal or diamond cut finishes.
The McLaren 675LT Spider is priced at £285,450 in the UK and its first deliveries will commence in Summer 2016.
