Mercedes G 500 4×4² confirmed for mass production

The Mercedes G 500 4×4² has been officially confirmed for production. Unlike the extreme AMG G 63 6×6, it been approved for series-production, which means that it will be globally sold. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015, the “Extreme-G” packs a new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that churns out 422 hp and 610 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The width of the vehicle has been increased by 299 mm (from the standard G 500) to 1,774 mm. The 4×4² version gets larger, 22-inch 325/55 R 22-sized wheels. The ground clearance has been increased to 450 mm and the wading depth is rated at 1,000 mm.

Along with the G 500 4×4² announcement, the company has also announced that all other G-Class models have been further improved with revised interiors and Euro 6 engines. Power has been increased by up to 16% and the fuel consumption has also been reduced. A new suspension setup will now be offered, with a more sensitive ESP. An AMG special edition model ‘Edition 463’ has also been announced.

The refreshed G-Class and the new G 500 4×4² will go on sale in Germany from September. The G 500 4×4² is priced at €226,100 (inclusive of VAT) in Germany. The 4×4² version will be launched in other European and global markets beginning from December .
