Mercedes-Benz plans to launch Audi TT and Porsche Panamera rivals to expand its lineup, suggests a new report from auto motor und sport. Both cars would be developed by the in-house performance division, AMG, as per the report. Citing unnamed sources from the company, the magazine says that the TT rival will be based on the MFA2 front-wheel drive platform that will debut on the next-generation A-Class in 2017 or 2018, and will get inspired by the AMG GT in terms of styling. A soft top version could also be sold, and a similar report emerged earlier in March, stating that an A-Class-based roadster is being planned.
The German automaker is also planning a Porsche Panamera rivaling coupe-styled four-door sedan which would be based on the E-Class. The next-generation E-Class is likely to arrive in early 2016, which means that if the new coupe-styled four-door sedan is a go, it could arrive sometime in 2017 or early 2018.
According to the report, both new models are still to be approved by the company’s board.
