Mitsubishi has announced the Mitsubishi eX Concept for the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The all-electric eX Concept apparently hints at the fourth-gen RVR, also known as Outlander Sport and ASX in some markets. The next-gen RVR/Outlander Sport/ASX will reportedly have a plug-in hybrid variant too and the eX Concept’s electrification technology could have some influence on the same.
Mitsubishi says that the eX Concept will preview their future electric vehicle technology. It is also a new interpretation of MMC’s Dynamic Shield front design concept. The Japanese automaker says that the design is a combination of a “shooting brake” style with the lines of a compact SUV. A unique construction feature is the usage of rubber coating on the underside and sides of the fascia where contact with obstacles is possible.
Access to the interior is an easy affair as there is no B-pillar to hinder passage. The dashboard is covered in soft-touch materials. Two portable batteries are housed in the center console, which can be used to support activities outside the car. The Augmented Reality (AR) windshield displays important information without the driver having to make major movements. The information that can be displayed includes route guidance from the car navigation system, vehicle-to-vehicle distance alerts, lane departure warnings and information on fixed or movable traffic signs acquired by the camera-based road sign recognition system.
Twin Motor 4WD drivetrain and S-AWC system work together to spin the wheels. Motive power is provided by electric motors at both axles generating 70 kW (94 hp) apiece for a total of 140 kW (188 hp). The electric motor sources power from a 45 kWh lithium-ion battery. The concept has a driving range of 400 km in JC08 test cycle.
The eX Concept will be among many models that the Japanese manufacturer will display at the show. The details are given below:
