The 2015 Honda Civic Type-R’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder VTEC TURBO churns out 306 hp and 400 Nm. All the power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed transmission, enabling it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. If that’s not enough, an even more beastly Type-R will be launched, indicates a recent report from Motor Trend.
Speaking to the publication, Hisayuki Yagi, Chief Engineer at the company, explained the idea behind the development of the Type-R. He said that the target right from the start of its development was to be the fastest FWD hatchback around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. And the company achieved that target, but if someone takes away the title, the company will take it back with a more powerful Type-R, he suggested.
Mr. Yagi indicated that its engine could be tuned for more power, if needed. The company would work on improving the power to weight ratio, if they are developing one.
It will compete against Volkswagen’s 394-hp Volkswagen Golf R 400 concept , which has reportedly been approved for production. It could be unveiled at the 2015 International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September, with sales commencing soon after. One of the main USPs of the Golf R400 is the 0-100 km/h sprint demolished in only 3.9 seconds, before maxing out at 294 km/h.
