More powerful 2016 Seat Leon CUPRA revealed

The 2016 Seat Leon CUPRA has been officially revealed with an additional 10 PS (9 hp) of power taking the total output to 290 PS (286 hp). The performance flagship from the Audi AG-owned Spanish brand also includes technologies like Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) and front differential lock along with progressive steering to deliver an immersive driving experience.

The upgraded Leon carries over exterior features like the full LED headlamps and tail lamps along with a high performance brake system and 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior cabin features sports seats in Alcantara, CUPRA steering wheel and LED ambient lighting. It also features a 6.5-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation option. The CUPRA Drive Profile allows drivers to choose from various driving modes like Comfort and Sport along with the CUPRA mode that sharpens throttle response and dynamics.

The 2016 Leon CUPRA is powered by the same four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine from the 2015 model but generates more power, as mentioned before. The engine features dual injection with variable camshaft timing generating a total of 290 PS (286 hp) and 350 Nm of torque. The torque is now available across a broader rev range from 1,700 rpm to 5,800 rpm.

The Leon CUPRA with the 6-speed manual transmission is capable of achieving a 0-62 mph (0-100km/h) time of 5.8 seconds, while the DSG automatic transmission-equipped model can complete the same task in 5.7 seconds. Both the manual and the automatic models have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The Leon CUPRA delivers fuel economy of 42.2 mpg (17.9 km/l) with the manual transmission and 42.8 mpg (18.1 km/l) with the automatic transmission. CO2 emissions figures for the manual and automatic models are marked 156 g/km and 149 g/km respectively.

An optional Sub8 Performance pack can also be opted for enhanced performance; the pack includes a set of Brembo brake callipers, exclusive alloy wheel design and special tyres. The new Leon CUPRA features a retuned exhaust system that gives the engine an even more refined tone.

The 2016 Seat Leon CUPRA will have its public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) this month.
