The latest car to join the Cadillac’s crossover range was the Cadillac SRX-replacing Cadillac XT5, which had its world premiere at the 2015 Dubai International Motor Show earlier this month. It is the first of four new crossovers planned to be introduced in the coming years. The second one is two years away, as per a report from Automotive News.
Speaking to the publication at the 2015 LA Auto Show, Cadillac President Johan De Nysschen told that a compact crossover positioned just below the mid-size Cadillac XT5 in the line-up is next. He said that this smaller crossover will arrive in 2018 and could be named ‘Cadillac XT4’. This name was trademarked at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) last year.
According to the report, Mr. De Nysschen also finds an “obvious gap” between the Cadillac XT5 crossover and the Cadillac Escalade SUV. This gap could be filled in the coming years by a Volvo XC90-rivaling luxury crossover. The company had trademarked XT6, XT7 and XT8 names last year, which indicated that a full family of crossovers and SUVs could be in the pipeline.
“I think a very well-executed, three-row crossover could fit in quite nicely,” Mr. De Nysschen. The report says that this model would be launched after the alleged Cadillac XT4, maybe in H2 2018 or early 2019.
