The sixth generation Ford Mustang went on sale in 2014 and hence the seventh generation Mustang is still very far from introduction, perhaps not due this decade, but an interesting scoop has surfaced on the web about the next-gen model already. Dutch automotive publication Autovisie had a chat with an unnamed top-level official from Ford Europe during which the official was asked about possibility of a diesel Mustang. The official denied any possibilities of a Mustang being offered with a diesel engine as diesel engines are heavy and would not help maintain the balance of the car.
According to the report, the official is impressed with the BMW i8’s plug-in hybrid electric technology. He says that an electrified Mustang is a possibility for the future, however, the current generation won’t be offered with an electrified version as the company is done with its development. This is an indication that the seventh generation Mustang, although in the distant future, could be offered with an electrified version, most likely a plug-in hybrid.
