Buick has introduced the 2016 Encore ‘Sport Touring’ in the US. The new model sports a new 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and unique exterior cues.
The 1.4-liter EcoTec turbocharged engine features direct injection and stop/start technology. It produces an estimated 153 hp (112 kW) and 240 Nm of torque, about 11% more horsepower and nearly 20% more torque than the sub-compact crossover’s standard engine. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the front axle in standard configuration. All-wheel drive is optional.
The exterior changes include a tailgate-mounted spoiler, 18-inch aluminium premium-finish wheels and body-color door handles. Other standard features of the car include blue-accented halogen composite projector-beam headlamps, 4G LTE connectivity with a Wi-Fi hotspot, reversing camera, electric power steering and four-wheel disc brakes. Customers can also get a Bose audio system, navigation radio and a moonroof.
“Encore is a driving force behind Buick’s expansion and a catalyst for introducing a new generation of customers to the brand,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. Vice President of Buick. “The all-new Encore Sport Touring broadens that base, giving customers more choices – along with more performance, more technology and more efficiency.”
The deliveries of the Encore Sport Touring are expected to start later this year, and the General Motors-owned Buick is yet to announce the price details of the car. Encore sales have increased 29 percent in the first six months of 2015 and the automaker is confident that the Sport Touring version will get more customers to the brand.
