Lexus has introduced the facelifted 2016 GS in the USA. The facelifted model gets a bolder design, an option for a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine engine and several other goodies.
Talking about the exterior, the 2016 GS gets a new front grille, Bi-LED headlmaps, restyled front and rear bumpers, revised tail lights and new 18- and 19-inch machine-finish wheel designs. Lexus also offers new color options on the car, which include Matador Red Mica, Nightfall Mica and Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0. The interior has been updated with new trim selections. Meanwhile, the infotainment system with 12.3-inch screen now features full-screen map capability when equipped with navigation. Navigation is now offered as standard on GS 350 and GS 450h.
As aforementioned, under the hood, the customers will now get an option for a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine teamed with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which transfers the power to the rear wheels of the car. The turbo engine delivers 241 hp and 350 Nm of torque. In the GS 350, there’s a more powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine, generating 311 hp and 380 Nm of torque (compared to the 306 hp and 375 Nm of torque produced in the 2015 model). It is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox as well.
The range-topping GS will be the 450h, featuring a hybrid powertrain. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system combines output from an Atkinson cycle 3.5-liter V6 engine and a water-cooled permanent-magnet electric motor for a total of 338 hp. This enables the 450h to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 5.6 seconds. It has EPA estimated combined fuel economy rating of 31 mpg (13 km/l). The F Sport package is available for all the three GS models and it leads to a firmer suspension, track-tuned chassis and exclusive exterior and interior design features.
