The new 2016 Opel Astra and the new 2016 Opel Astra Sports Tourer have made their world debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) in Germany. Opel premiered the new models at the brand’s uniquely shaped Astra Galaxy booth covering over 3,300 square meters at the popular motor show.
The fifth generation of the Opel Astra features a lightweight architecture which enables the new hatchback to be up to 200 kg lighter than the previous generation. It incorporates numerous safety and assistance systems that have been designed for optimum performance like the glare-free IntelliLux LED matrix light system.
The Astra will also be the first model in the company’s line-up to be equipped with the Opel OnStar personal connectivity and services assistant including features like 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, 24 hour emergency call service and road side assistance.
The 2016 Astra will sport the next generation of the IntelliLink infotainment system which now incorporates smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This means drivers can integrate their smartphone to the infotainment system and use the bigger screen to control different features like text messaging, navigation, voice integration, music streaming among others.
Dr. Karl Thomas Neumann, CEO, Opel Group, said that the new Astra generation leads Opel into a new era with trailblazing features. The new Astra is more efficient, lighter and more comfortable than ever before. Together with Opel OnStar and the next IntelliLink generation, it elevates the compact class to the next level in terms of connectivity and smartphone integration.
