Starting February 1, 2012 the European Commission has passed a resolution that all new cars manufactured must be equipped with Daytime Running Lights (DRL). This rule is valid only for new cars.
In this context, the electronics giant Philips partnered with Romanian auto manufacturer Dacia on LED lights to be mounted on the Duster mini SUV. To ensure good integration, the lights, developed in partnership with Ecoplast Technology, will sit on the bumper. The LED daytime running lights is available for a price of 250 Euros including installation and VAT.
Studies conducted by the European Commission back in August 2006 concluded that use of Daytime Running Light could reduce the number of road fatalities by 3-5% each year. This would avoid between 1,200 and 2,000 deaths per year in Europe. The LED lights allows cars to be more visible and detected easily by drivers or pedestrians traveling in the opposite direction.
The LED lights have a life of more than 10,000 hours, equal to the average life of a car and don’t require any maintenance. The Dacia Duster fitted with the DRL Philips lights is presented at the Brussels Auto Show in Heysel that runs till January 22, 2012
