Porsche unveiled the second-generation Boxster Spyder at the 2015 New York International Auto Show earlier this month. While the all-new model of the mid-engined convertible sports car is not due to hit the markets until later this year, a fresh report has surfaced claiming a GT4 version is under consideration. Buoyed by the demand for the Cayman GT4, the company is now planning a GT4 version of the Boxster Spyder as well, suggests a report from Autocar. According to the report, the company believes that the success of the Cayman GT4 makes an RS version more likely.
The Cayman GT4 and the Boxster Spyder already share the same 3.8-litre horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine with outputs rated nearly the same. The Boxster GT4 version would gain GT3-specification brakes and Cayman GT4’s aerodynamic package, as per the report. Weight-reduction enhancements should also be expected on the performance-centric version.
However, the GT4 version cannot be expected to debut at-least until next year, a few months after the all-new Spyder model goes on sale globally later this year. The performance version will sit below the Cayman GT4 which is priced at €85,776 (Germany).
