PSA Peugeot Citroen’s premium brand DS will not follow the herd by offering extremely powerful engines in its cars. As per a new report from Autocar, DS cars will focus more on hybrid technology than on horsepower. Citing a conversation with DS CEO Yves Bonnefont, the report indicates that the company is not in the race of making high-performance premium cars like the BMW M3 or the Mercedes C63 AMG. As per the report, the CEO says that 300 bhp is a sensible limit for cars that want a balance of dynamics and comfort, and that the company does not want to cross that barrier as DS is not about excessive horsepower.
The company is more interested in hybrid technology. Saying that combination of three- and four-cylinder engines with a hybrid system can be used to deliver immense power, Mr. Bonnefont suggests that the company will reach 300 bhp by employing hybrid powertrains. Moreover, this sort of combination of refinement and technology not only delivers adequate power, but also adheres to the DS brand’s core values.
