Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that one of its best sellers – the Range Rover Evoque, will also be produced at the new plant in Itatiaia, Brazil, alongside the Discovery Sport.
The Brazilian facility is JLR’s first wholly-owned manufacturing facility outside UK. The plant will attract a total investment of R$750 million (£240 million) till the end of 2020 and once ready, will have an annual production capacity of 24,000 units. In its first phase, the 60,000 m2 facility will provide employment to nearly 400 people. The plant is now nearing completion and is currently being equipped with manufacturing equipment so as to start production by early 2016.
JLR has also announced that they will be sourcing a range of components from local suppliers such as Benteler and IAC along with other parts that will be imported from its global supply chain.The company is also investing in its technical assistance services to help suppliers support increased levels of localization in the future.
Commenting on the occasion, Terry Hill, MD, Jaguar Land Rover Latin America said: “Brazil and the surrounding regions are very important to Jaguar Land Rover. The introduction of the Range Rover Evoque to our factory in Itatiaia highlights our long-term commitment to the Brazilian market.”
JLR is not new to Brazil, it has been there since 20 years and has a network of 40 dealers throughout the country.
