The Renault Twingo is now available with Dual Clutch transmission (EDC) as an option on the TCe90 and S TCe90 models in Dynamique trim level, with prices starting at £12,595. The company is now taking pre-orders and will commence deliveries in January 2016.
Renault has also made some changes to the specifications of the city car. The Dynamique trim level gets new six-spoke 15-inch ‘Ariane’ alloy wheels as standard. Both grades can be optioned with extra-tinted rear windows.
The EDC gearbox is an automatic dual dry clutch transmission that does away with the need for a clutch pedal. The gear selection is done by an electronic control unit that handles the job of selecting the ideal gear. The additional cost for this setup is just £900 over the corresponding manual model with the added benefit of faster gear changes at 290 ms. EDC also comes with the ‘Creep’ functionality that is a boon in urban traffic. This allows the car to slowly move forward when the brake pedal is released. Hill starts can be safely executed as the unit adds Hill Start Assist to the list of standard equipment, when used along with the ‘Creep’ function.
Power comes a 90 hp 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine. This unit is also available with the ECO mode that results in an increase of 10% in fuel efficiency. This efficiency boost is achieved by modifying the gearbox ECU to shift gears at lower rpm.
