Renaultsport is considering adding another model to its line-up which currently comprises of the Megane RS and the Clio RS.
Jerome Stoll, Executive Vice President, Chief Performance Officer, Sales & Marketing, Chairman of Renaultsport, said that the decision to add a third model to the Renaultsport line-up will be dependent on the company’s decision of either leaving Formula1 or reforming a wholly owned team, a report by Motoring.com.au stated.
He also went on to add that there has been a lot of pressure to expand the line-up and the company is looking at that possibility. The decision to introduce a new model into the performance range will also have to take into account the plans of alliance partner Nissan’s NISMO performance division.
Also speaking with the publication, Regis Fricotte, Renaultsport’s Head of Communications and Sales, confirmed the development and its relation to the company’s Formula1 plans, stating that the “involvement in F1 is supported by a range of road cars”.
Mr. Fricotte hinted that the third model could possibly be a SUV and the company is examining the feasibility, market and business model of such a variant. He stated that other companies have a SUV with a sports variant and there is no reason Renault shouldn’t follow suit. Currently Renault’s SUV range comprises of the Koleos, Kadjar and Captur.
Mr. Fricotte went on to add that Renaultsport aims to double its current annual sales between 35,000 units and 40,000 units in the coming two to four years with the introduction of the third model and hopes that its association with motorsports would help increase its market share.
