Hyundai and Rockstar Performance Garage (RPG) have collaborated to create the ‘RPG Tucson’ – a third generation 2016 Hyundai Tucson crossover modified into a ‘true off-roader’. The customized Tucson will be unveiled at Hyundai’s SEMA press conference on November 3 in Las Vegas.
Noteworthy exterior modifications include black and yellow livery color scheme, custom off-road bumpers, smoked tail lights, custom LED light-bar setup from Bulldog and massive 32-inch MTZ P3 tires from Mickey Thompson.
The suspension has been completely overhauled and the wheel wells have also been reconstructed to make space for the bigger tyres. Fully customized and adjustable shocks and struts from King Shocks have been installed, and this has resulted in the ride height increasing by six inches over the stock version.
Inside, the Tucson features Hyundai’s next-generation Blue Link infotainment system which features Destination Search from Google. The vehicle can be remotely locked from the Blue Link mobile app, available for both Apple Watch and Android Wear. Blue Link also has the capability to assist authorities in quickly finding and immobilizing the Tucson, in the unfortunate case of it being stolen.
Powering this behemoth, will be the same 1.6-liter “Gamma” four-cylinder, but its performance has been given a boost due to the addition of turbo piping, high-flow Magnaflow exhaust, new K&N intake and intercooler from Mishimoto. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 6-speed DCT transmission. The engine and performance specifications haven’t been released just yet.
Commenting on the build, Nic Ashby, Owner and General Partner, Rockstar Performance Garage said: “Tucson was a great starting platform with its rigid frame and plenty of room in the engine bay for modifications. With the complete suspension overhaul and blacked-out appearance, this Tucson is guaranteed to be a head turner in line with the Rockstar lifestyle.”
