A set of images published by CarNewsChina allegedly leak the production-spec Bentley Bentayga. The Chinese publication claims that the images preview the ‘official 1:18 scale model’ of the production version. The model may not be the actual car, but it gives a definite idea of how Bentley’s first-ever production crossover will look like.
The design is influenced by the Bentley EXP 9 F concept that was showcased at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. However, the production-spec Bentayga seems to have a much more conventional blueprint. The headlights and front grille resemble that of the Flying Spur models and the big taillights get chrome plating on the edges. The car in the leaked pictures has a large panoramic sunroof, huge tyres and oval-shaped exhaust pipes. The cabin isn’t extravagant and instead, follows a beige-creamy white colour combination.
The Bentley Bentayga is promised to be the “the most luxurious and fastest SUV in the world.” The luxury crossover should, and reports claim that it will be, offered with the revised version of the 6.0-litre W12 TSI engine that was announced at the 2015 Vienna Motor Symposium in May. The direct injection turbocharged engine produces 599 hp and 900 Nm of torque, capable enough to make the car complete a 0-100 km/h speed run in under 4 seconds and hit a top speed of over 300 km/h. Apart from that, there will be options for two other gasoline engines and a plug-in hybrid and diesel versions as well.
The Bentayga will be underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform that forms base for the second generation Audi Q7. The name of the crossover is inspired by Roque Bentayga, a 4642-foot mountain peak on Spain’s Grand Canary Island. The Bentley Bentayga will have its world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) and likely go on sale in Europe in H1 2016.
