The Nissan 370Z is my pick of Nakamura’s design. What is yours?
The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology announced Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President, and Chief Creative Officer, Nissan Motor Company Ltd, has been elected winner of the Lifetime Design Achievement Award for the EyesOn Design Automotive Exhibit, 2010.
The panel of judges are accomplished designers who have won this award previously. Nakamura’s favorite designers were part of the judging team.
Mr. Nakamura who at one point in his life sat in at a Ginza jazz club as a bass player also plays classical music with his cello.
Nakamura has designed some of my favorite cars. He made a SUV ‘cute’ for the first time ever with the Murano. The Cube, which bags the most unique design award in the world, has the same interior space of the S-Class. The Godzilla GT-R which looks like its been inspired by a razor blade is another achievement of this extra ordinary man, and who can forget the Nissan Leaf?
Nakamura comes up with something special everytime he heads to the drawing board.
The Lifetime Design Achievement Award will be presented in June 2010 at the EyesOn Design event, held annually on Father’s Day at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe, Mich.
