Skoda considering a Fabia-based subcompact crossver?

May 4, 2015

The Volkswagen Group is aggressively planning to dominate the growing crossover segment, with planned offerings from Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and now Skoda too. A Skoda Fabia-based subcompact crossover will arrive the market in 2017, says a new report from AutoExpress. The B-segment crossover could be revealed online by the end of 2016, ahead of market launch in the following year. The subcompact crossover will rival with the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Suzuki Vitara and the SsangYong Tivoli. In-house brand Volkswagen will also have a rival with a Volkswagen Polo-based subcompact crossover that has already been confirmed. The Polo-based subcompact crossover is likely to arrive before the one based on the Fabia.

Like the other major carmakers out there, Skoda also plans to steer growth by offering more products in the booming crossover/SUV segment. Currently, Skoda offers only one crossover – the Yeti. This C-segment crossover will also enter its second generation in 2017, as per the report. A seven-seater flagship SUV is already on its way this year. This D-segment SUV will compete head-to-head with the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Mazda MX-5 and the Honda CR-V.
