Skoda has created a special iteration of its Superb saloon which will premiere at Designblok 2015, that will take place at the Czech Design and Fashion Week from October 21 to October 27. The show car is called the ‘Skoda Superb Black Crystal’ and has been made in collaboration with glassworks Preciosa.
The Skoda Superb Black Crystal is finished in black colour but has been given a crystal touch. There are high-quality crystal elements found all over the body especially in the Skoda logos adorning the front and rear, as well as the wheels and the steering wheel. The Laurin & Klement emblem found inside on the steering wheel is also crafted from crystal. These crystal pieces have been crafted using traditional methods, which is a tedious and time-consuming affair.
The highlight of the creation is undoubtedly the finish given to the wheels that have been coated in StarDust. This unique finish requires the rims to be resurfaced with small, bright crystals giving them a brilliant look. This very same coating method was applied by the Skoda design team when they were commissioned to create the Tour De France winner trophies.
“The new ŠKODA Superb stands out with its expressive, emotional design and great attention to detail. This claim is further demonstrated in ŠKODA’s new show car – the ‘Superb Black Crystal’. Through precision-processed glass crystals, the show car looks like an item of jewellery only to be worn on special occasions,” says ŠKODA Chief Designer Josef Kabaň.
