The Subaru BRZ-based STI Performance Concept car that was unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show earlier this month, generated lot of interest and speculation about a BRZ STI. A recent report from Automotive News confirms that the company will offer a high-performance version of the sports coupe in the USA.
USA is the highest priority market for Subaru Technica Division (STI), says the President Yoshio Hirakawa from Subaru’s parent company’s, as per the report. The division deals in completely tuned performance cars, performance parts and motorsports.
According to the report, Michael McHale – Director of Corporate Commmunications of the Subaru’s U.S. subsidiary – confirms a high-performance version of the sports coupe saying that the U.S. market will get an STI version of the BRZ in a couple years. However, he also points out that the exact branding and specifications of the vehicle are yet to be decided, but a “tuned by STI” branding may be used. The U.S. subsidiary is also planning to rename the SPT (Subaru Performance Tuning) line of performance parts to STI.
