A Subaru hatch prototype was recently spotted undergoing testing in the U.S. The prototype was initially thought to be the next gen Impreza hatchback wearing the body of a modified XV Crosstrek.
However the test mule had a much higher ground clearance than the Subaru Impreza’s liking. The ground clearance of the test mule rather hints at a new XV Crosstrek. The XV Crosstrek that was introduced in 2012 has been out there for long enough to deserve a mid-life refresh.
According to speculation on the web, the 2016 Subaru XV Crosstek is likely to feature a turbocharged engine. Subaru XV enthusiasts, dealers and Subaru of America have shown their interest in turbo model for the new model, and the test mule’s hood scoop is another strong indication that the message has been heard.
If Subaru decides to introduce this variant, it would possibly use the the 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine that produces 250 hp and 350 Nm of torque on the Forester XT.
The XV Crosstrek’s close competitors like the Nissan Juke for instance, already feature a turbocharged engine giving Subaru another reason to offer a turbo on its “fun to drive” vehicle.
