The Suzuki Baleno has been officially unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA). The Suzuki Baleno is the production version of the iK-2 concept that was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. The Suzuki Baleno is based on an all-new platform which offers high rigidity and weight savings.
The Baleno nameplate enjoys recognition in markets like Europe, Australia and Asia due to its long history. The company now aims to raise the bar and has developed a new version that has been engineered to meet the needs of today’s customers, making no compromises.
The exterior of the hatchback features the company’s ‘Liquid Flow’ design language with a sporty low and wide profile. It features a V-shaped grille, wide bumpers, LED position lamps and blacked out A-pillars. The black and chrome headlamp units house high intensity discharge projector units, while the tail lamps get the LED treatment with a design that provides uniform illumination.
The Suzuki Baleno will be offered with 9 exterior paint schemes including ‘Premium Silver Metallic’ and ‘Ray Blue Pearl Metallic’, and ride on 16-inch alloy wheels or 15-inch steel wheels. It will also sport a thin roof spoiler for added aerodynamic performance.
The interior of the Baleno features a flared dashboard design for added sense of width with silver trim inserts and red backlighting for the buttons. It incorporates a 7-inch Smartphone Linkage Audio Display with features like USB and SD card connectivity, rear view camera integration and Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink smartphone integration technology for features like navigation, phone, messaging and music.
Powering the new compact hatchback, is a newly developed 1.0-litre BOOSTERJET turbocharged engine that churns out 191 hp (82 kW) and 170 Nm of torque. The engine can be mated to 5-speed manual transmission which has been optimised to minimise frictional losses or to a 6-speed automatic transmission designed to offer enhanced performance and efficiency.
A 1.2-litre DUALJET petrol engine with improved thermal efficiency and integration with a (SVHS) mild hybrid system will also be offered. Transmission options include 5-speed manual transmission and continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The VW Golf-rival boasts a class-leading luggage space of 355 litres. Noteworthy safety & assistance features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Radar Brake Support, ESP and 6 SRS airbags.
The Suzuki Baleno will go on sale in Europe in Spring 2016.
