Golf seems to be the favorite among young designer to show they skills. We get to see a new rendering almost every other day. So what’s so special in this one? Unlike the previous design, this new rendering is much sharper and sporty with 17 inch alloys.

The Volkswagen Golf 7 will debut by the end of 2012

The whole design seems to be inspired by the new Passat. The best bit is the LED lightening in the headlamps and Dual Exhaust.

Two groundbreaking technologies – HCCI and a very efficient electric powertrain will debut on the Golf 7. Engine displacement on the Golf 7 will range from 1,200cc to 2,000cc. The most powerful variant will be an AWD with 300hp.

The next gen Golf will be flatter, sharper and have a lower stance

Based on the Modulare Querbaukasten (MBQ) architecture, the Golf 7 will meet the tougher Euro 6 emissions standards, which come into effect in 2014.

So if you were the CEO of VW, looking at so many different designs, which one should go into production?

Here's another artist generated drawing of the much anticipated 7th generation Volkswagen Golf which will hit Europe in 2012. The car will be available in petrol, diesel and hybrid variants.

The hybrid powertrain will premiere in the 7th gen Golf and it will be a diesel-hybrid. A 1.5-liter diesel engine will be coupled to a motor and L-Ion batteries helping the Golf return a mind-boggling gas mileage of 113mpg. With electric-only range of 48km (30 miles), this will be one of the most fuel economical hatchbacks from VW.

HCCI engine will also find its first application on the new Golf. HCCI engine is a petrol engine which behaves like a diesel engine, depending on compression solely to operate in certain conditions. VW's new 7-speed DSG will make its way on to the new Golf as well.

Car and Driver's rendering of the new Golf (shown above) is slightly more edgier, lower and wider than Autozeitung's (top) projection.

Three wheelbases are also planned – short (2630mm) for the hatchbacks, midsize (2680mm) for Jetta, Tiguan and Golf Variant, long (2790mm) for Touran and Tiguan XL (USA and China only). Luggage capacity will also go up accordingly, from 405 litres in the Golf to 455 litres in the Golf Plus to 505 litres in the Golf Variant estate.

VW engineer says -

Expect higher-quality materials and some innovative features. That’s it!” What will be new is an eight-inch touch screen on top of the center console that will work like an Apple iPad or iPhone and provide radio controls and navigation, as well as in-car Internet access.

The 7th generation VW Golf is already in the works. Designing of the car is underway by the famous designer Walter de Silva, who is credit with designing many of the existing VW's. The design shows clear links to the Scirocco sports hatchback.

VW's Twin Drive hybrid technology will debut on the Golf for the very first time. Combining a 1.5-litre diesel with three electric motors, it will give 48km (30 miles) of electric-only traveling and it will return a 113mpg average fuel consumption. This is in the same tune of the Chevrolet Volt.

HCCI engines will also debut on the new Golf for the first time. The petrol engine behaves like a diesel, with no spark plug and combustion due to sheer compression. The VW Group's new 7-speed DSG will make its way too.
