The Nissan GT-R successor could have high horsepower and low emissions. Wondering how that can be done? Hybrid technology.

The new GT-R will not disturb the 3.8-liter dual turbocharger 6 cylinder engine found in the normal GT-R. It will simply add the electric powertrain similar to the one on the Infinity Essence concept. Added weight could be nullified by 115 extra horsepower resulting out of the motors. This will balance the equation of power and weight.

The performance of the new GT-R will be similar to the existing vehicle. Handling and stopping are two concerns that are brought forward with added mass.

But the biggest leap comes in terms of emission and gas mileage. The hybrid GT-R is expected to return 30mpg and push out less emissions. Not bad for a track-honed street-legal supercar which should come with the substantially bigger price tag.
