We had posted about Alfa Romeo SUVs being developed and would be unveiled by end-2011 just last week but we never hoped to catch a glimpse of an Alfa Romeo badged SUV so soon.

Alfa Romeo recently celebrated its 100th year anniversary and this SUV with 'Kamal' boldly written on its bonnet was spotted in the parking lot and the Alfa Romeo badges and the typical nose make the mind believe this is the Alfa Romeo SUV.

But once past the initial shock its not hard to understand this is the work of an Alfa Romeo fanatic who badly wanted an Alfa Romeo SUV but couldn't wait till the end of 2011 to get the real one.

So he bought himself a BMW X1 and made slight modifications to make it look like an Alfa Romeo. The car does in fact look like the Alfa Romeo C-SUV whose renderings we had posted last week.

Fiat's management would be looking to add more vehicles to the Alfa Romeo brand and the most important additions to come would be two new SUVs. Alfa Romeo is reportedly developing two SUVs, a C-SUV codenamed 'Project 921' and a bigger D-SUV codenamed 'Project 931'. This two SUVs would be launched by end-2011.

The C-SUV (pictured above), a crossover based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta coupe would be be called the CXover. Though the base versions would come only with front wheel drive, Alfa Romeo could also offer its Q4 all wheel drive system to the CXover. The CXover would compete with the likes of the Audi Q5 and the next generation BMW X3.

The D-SUV would be a bigger SUV and would derive its roots from the Jeep Liberty thanks to parent Fiat's partnership with the Chrysler group and its 20% stake in the American company. The D-SUV would be called the DXover and would be bigger and meaner than the CXover. Both the SUVs would get the 115 hp 1.6 liter, 140 hp 1.8 liter or the turbocharged direct injection 1.8 liter producing 200 hp.

Also the compact executive car 159 would be replaced by the Alfa Romeo 169 which would share its platform with the next generation Chrysler 300C. The new Alfa Romeo 169 would be based on a front engined, rear wheel drive platform.
