Tesla Model X deliveries begin on September 29

At the Tesla Motor’s Q2 2015 Financial Results announcement, CEO Elon Musk stated that deliveries of the Tesla Model X will commence in the end of September. Keeping his promise, Mr. Musk has announced on his Twitter account that Model X deliveries will commence on September 29. The first production version units will be delivered at the California-based electric automaker’s Fremont factory.

The online configurator is now live in the U.S. and other select markets for customers who have reserved their Tesla Model X, and reveals the pricing, technical specifications, standard equipment and optional equipment of the production version. Tesla is asking a deposit of US$5,000 for the regular Model X but a hefty US$40,000 deposit for the Model X Signature Series. The Model X AWD 90 kWh Signature Series comes standard with the following features:

  • Falcon Wing rear doors with built-in sensors for opening (safely) in garages of any height
  • Automatically retracting rear spoiler
  • Rear accessory hitch for bike or ski carrier
  • Satellite navigation with real time traffic
  • Daytime running lights
  • Power-folding and heated side mirrors
  • Automatic keyless entry
  • GPS enabled Homelink
  • Parking sensors and blind spot warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Free access to Supercharger network
  • 8 year, infinite mile battery and drive unit warranty
  • Autopilot Convenience Features with self parking and automatic lane steering
  • Smart Air Suspension with GPS memory
  • Ultra High Fidelity Sound with satellite radio
  • Premium interior and lighting with power liftgate
  • Ventilated leather seats with heating and cooling
  • Independently operable, 3-adult second row seats
  • Flat folding, 2-adult third row seats

Tesla Model X production-spec Signature Series

The 90 kWh battery pack in the Model X Signature Series sends 259 hp from the front electric motor and 509 hp from the rear electric motor. In this configuration, the electric crossover can reach 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The EPA estimated range is marked 240 miles (386 km). The range-topping grade is priced from US$132,000 (excluding Tax Credit and Incentive).

The regular grades of the Model X will be priced US$5k more than a similarly equipped Model S. The Tow Package upgrade will cost US$750, the Subzero Weather Package upgrade will cost US$1,000 and the Ludicrous mode upgrade will cost US$10,000. Moreover, Mr. Musk has also confirmed via a tweet that the entry-level Model 3 will go into production in two years’ time. To put the most affordable Tesla into production, the Gigafactory in Nevada, USA, would be required to become fully operational, the CEO suggested.
