The Game Changer? – Gordon Murray’s T25

Gordon Murray T25Gordon Murray’s T25 city car has been creating airwaves ever since the legendary McLaren F1 designer announced that his company will design an affordable, small, economical city car for the masses. The designer believes that his T25 city car will be the perfect vehicle for today’s urban motoring.

Murray believes that his T25 city car has the ability to revolutionise the car industry the way the McLaren F1 did 20 years ago. The T25 possesses the same centrally positioned driver’s seat as that of the McLaren F1, alongwith the two passenger seats positioned on either side of the driver’s seat, albeit slightly behind it. Also, unlike the F1, the T25 is designed to offer the maximum possible amount of convenience.

Seeing it in reality, makes one realize how small the T25 is when compared to other small cars. It is less than 8ft in length, which makes it about a foot shorter than the Smart For Two Coupé, but it still looks like something one would want to own and drive. The T25 is just over 4ft wide (8in less than a Smart), which means that in the space where one would would be able to park only a single car, three T25′s can be parked side-by-side legally.

The T25 also does not possess any doors. Instead, when one presses a blipper on the key, the canopy hinged at the windscreen’s base at the front pops open and pivots forward. The T25 also has steering wheel mounted paddles for the auto box, should one desire to shift gears manually. It is expected to go 400 miles on a tankful of gas and should emit only 88g/km of CO2.The expected price is around £6,500.

Murray says it won’t be long before the T25 goes on sale along with its electric brother, the T27. He’ll be selling the rights to manufacture and produce the T25 and T27 to someone willing to invest in a manufacturing facility for both the cars.

Features of the T25

- Plenty of glass area and slim pillars to allow excellent visibility, making urban driving totally hassle free.

- Rear-positioned petrol cap means one doesn’t have to worry which side of the pump the person’s on.

- Body panels are made from recycled plastic bottles, which helps keep the car’s weight down to 600kg — 25% lighter than a Smart.

- The 660cc three-cylinder engine emits 88g/km of CO2, which translates to zero road tax.

- Single, front-hinged canopy opens vertically, so one needs only 16in between the person and another car parked alongside to get in or out. In a normal car one needs at least 31in.

- The turning circle is just 20ft — better than that of a London taxi.

- Front bumper is split into four bolt-on sections, making it cheap to repair parking lot damage.
