Mitsubishi recently unveiled the third generation Pajero Sport (Montero Sport/Challenger) in Thailand. The SUV is scheduled to go on sale in Thailand in fall 2015, sequentially followed by Australia, ASEAN nations, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Russia.
According to a report by Auto Express, the all-new model could be homologated and sold in the UK as the ‘Shogun Sport’. The Shogun Sport was sold in the UK earlier but was discontinued 2006 and never replaced again. Moreover, the current Shogun SUV sold in the UK is based on a 16-year-old platform. Its fifth generation model that was said to arrive this year, has been delayed and will arrive probably in early 2016.
Mitsubishi’s UK Managing Director, Lance Bradley tweeted an article by Auto Express regarding the possible conversion of the Pajero Sport so that it can be sold in UK and other markets of Europe. He further added that the Shogun Sport “sold well” in the UK.
The 2016 Challenger is based on the same ladder-frame chassis of the fifth generation Triton (L200) that arrived in November 2014. Mitsubishi has introduced a new design layout for the car with the front fascia similar to the facelifted Outlander and the rear getting new elongated taillights.
